Shona Laing has been awarded the 2013 New Zealand Music Awards Legacy Award, give to artists who have paved the way for future generations.
Laing's public life began with a TV talent show appearance as a 17 year-old in 1972, and she's been writing songs and performing - off and on - ever since.
