In 2010 seven children emerged from a Lower East Side New York apartment having been confined there since birth by their over-protective father. He let them out of the house only a few times a year. They were home schooled by their mother, and brought up on a diet of 5,000 movies, which was their main window on the world. The siblings would re-enact the movies with elaborate home-made costumes and props.
Documentary filmmaker Crystal Moselle met the family on a rare outing and over time befriended them, which led to her prize-winning film The Wolfpack.
Crystal Moselle talks to Jesse Mulligan about the story.
