Queen's Birthday Honours: Dame Silvia Cartwright
Dame Silvia Cartwright is no stranger to accolades in light of her service to law, and today she's adding yet another feather to her cap. She's receiving the highest possible honour in the New Zealand royal honours system - becoming an Additional Member of the Order of New Zealand. Dame Silvia was the first woman to hold the position of Chief District Court Judge and the first appointed to the High Court, before serving as New Zealand's 18th Govenor-General from 2001 to 2006. She is perhaps best known for the aptly titled 'Cartwright Inquiry', a 1988 investigation into the treatment of patients with cervical cancer at Auckland's National Women's Hospital.
