Hillary Clinton has said she believes that Russia’s hacking of her campaign and the Democratic National Committee – along with that letter by the director of the FBI – cost her this year's presidential election.

WikiLeaks and other websites published troves of hacked emails from Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta during the final months of the election, thus, said The New York Times last week, “becoming a de facto instrument of Russian intelligence”.

Kim Hill looks at the facts with journalist Charles (Chuck) Lane – an opinion writer for The Washington Post.

Charles Lane was a finalist for the 2009 Pulitzer Prize in editorial writing. He is the author of The Day Freedom Died: The Colfax Massacre, the Supreme Court and the Betrayal of Reconstruction and a frequent commentator on television and radio.
