A new report has found higher levels of maternal stress and large amounts of screen time during early childhood, are associated with higher levels of behavioural problems in children.
The report, The effect of income on New Zealand children's behaviour: The influence of maternal stress and children's screen use, found that higher screen time, mainly four hours or more per day, led to preschool children playing up and that could not be explained by socioeconomic differences.
Meanwhile, having lower incomes increased maternal stress and, in turn, that was also associated with more behavioural problems in children. Dr Jaimie Monk talks about the findings with Susie.
