The Pentagon says it had no advance warning of an Israeli strike on the Lebanese capital.

The multiple blasts in Beirut have been confirmed as an attempt, at assassinating the leader of the Lebanese militant group, Hezbollah.

Since Monday, local officials say nearly 800 people have been killed.

At the UN this week, Israel rejected the suggestion of a ceasefire.
