Last Thursday the 30th of November would have been June Antoinette Pointer’s 64th birthday. She was the youngest of the Pointer Sisters, and her cocaine addiction meant she was asked to leave the group in 2004. Ruth's daughter filled in for her Aunty June during stage performances while Anita, Bonnie and Ruth waited for their sister to become drug-free. On February 27, 2006, June suffered a stroke and while hospitalized was diagnosed with cancer, which had metastasized in her breast, colon, liver and bones. She died at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, California on April 11, 2006 at the age of 52.
