Late Night Phil
John Weldon "J. J." Cale was born on December 5, 1938. He was a guitarist, singer and songwriter who avoided the limelight, but loved it when other artists recorded his songs. And they all loved him - his influence has been acknowledged by Mark Knopfler, Neil Young, Waylon Jennings, and Eric Clapton, who described him as "one of the most important artists in the history of rock". He is one of the originators of a loose genre drawing on blues, rockabilly, country, and jazz they called the Tulsa sound. Cale died at the age of 74 in San Diego, California, on July 26, 2013, following a heart attack.
