This week Tony is joined by musician Luke Rowell (Disasteradio/ Eyeliner) and label boss Zac Arnold (Sunreturn), to bring you six brand new tunes.
Ha The Unclear - Strangers
Zac: "It's so great to see a local indie band come to maturation. Generally with younger groups they'll release an album or two and call it a day, whereas Ha The Unclear have been going for quite a while now, and it's great to hear them honing their craft."
Imugi 이무기 - Reflections
Zac: "They have a real knack for crafting slick pop hooks. This one has the heavy trip hop and r&b influences, but they're mixed with Yery's spoken word delivery, which I liken to a guided meditation. That said, at the end of the day it just gets you nodding your head."
Sheep Dog and Wolf - Cyclical
Luke: "I'm usually allergic to long songs, and I was expecting to be bored over six minutes, but it delivered all the way. It's a beautiful song. It's very well thought out, but he hasn't squashed the essential nub of the song."
Luxury Elite - Night Walk
Luke: "It's all sampled work. She'll grab a part of a pop song or a piece of library music, and it's always a section that's not quite the drop, or not quite the verse. There's a lot of interstices in her work. It's like being in a lobby; it's like waiting for something to happen. I love the mood that she creates without ever doing too much. It's got a reservation that makes it seem classy."
The Weather Station - Robber
Tony: "It sounds like the theme to a spy movie or something. It's an extreme slow-burn. I love that gradual introduction of elements, and really appreciate what a slow, slow simmer it is. Takes its time. It's really cool, and understated."
Bruce Springsteen - I'll See You In My Dreams
Tony: "He's still got the essence of what's made him good all these years. Even the middle eight, where he busts out a guitar solo, it's like I've heard a million people emulate this, but this is the guy himself doing it".
