Danielle and Peter Paki of Tirau thought it would be a long, long time before they could afford their own home. Near neighbour Jill Thompson felt the same. However, early in the new year they and their kids will have new houses that they've helped build with Habitat for Humanity.

Back in November at Habitat's Hamilton yard, the Pakis and Jill Thompson were on hand with their hammers to take part in a friendly building race 'guys versus the girls'. Their two houses got built in just five days.
