This school holiday, Capital E are presenting a book bazaar as a way to get children excited about storytelling through words and pictures. To help them along, authors from Gecko Press are leading workshops to encourage children to develop their ideas.
Younger children will delight in the colourful and beautifully illustrated Mrs Mo’s Monster by Paul Beavis, who will lead kids along a fun, rowdy journey with some interactive reading and monster drawing sessions. For the older kids, author Mary McCallum is holding sessions on the development of a creature-type character very much like the Tigrish in her book Dappled Annie and The Tigrish; whilst Barbara Else, author of soon to be released The Volume of Impossible Endings, will lead writing workshops which explore "trapping and training ideas".
I’ve seen a lot of writing by children and they often start off with a lot of energy but they don’t know where to take their ideas. It’s a method that opens them up to creativity. Barbara Else.
