Dr Anna Crighton has been a fierce campaigner for the preservation of historic buildings in Aotearoa for most of her professional career, and today her services have been recognised with a damehood.
Dr Crighton was instrumental in establishing the Christchurch Heritage Trust in 1996, she has been the Chair of the New Zealand Historic Places Trust, and is a former president of Historic Places Aotearoa.
