Today marks one month since the fatal explosion on Whakaari that killed 19 people, two of whom haven't yet been found.
Twenty five people remain in hospitals here and in Australia, six of them with critical injuries. Two investigations, one by police on behalf of the Coroner and another by WorkSafe, are ongoing.
Ngati Awa have released a statement on behalf of all the iwi of Mataatua waka saying one month on, they continue to mourn and grieve and pray for the speedy recovery of those who were injured. The chair of Ngati Awa holdings which owns White Island Tours, Paul Quinn, will visit those still in Middlemore hospital today.
Meanwhile, Whakatane's mayor Judy Turner says the tragedy is still raw for the city. She spoke to Leigh-Marama McLachlan.
