Academy Cinema special events

The recent Oscars made several references to the fact that all those movies were made to be seen in an actual cinema, not on a laptop, phone or device. But in fact most movies in this country are lucky to get four or five weeks in a cinema before being sent to the streaming services forever. With one notable exception. Auckland's Academy Cinema has a wildly imaginative attitude to movies, with inspired mini-festivals and events popping up most weekends. Where else would you see Kill Bill 1 and 2, Mulholland Drive, Remains of the Day and recently the original Addams Family movie for - what else? - "5 Dollar Wednesday"! The Academy events are the brainchild of Venue Manager Cameo England and Programming and Projection Manager Gorjan Markovski who chat with Simon Morris just before they take off to open the cinema.
