Watching out for fraud, privacy infringement, police misconduct, and outdated laws are government funded organisations whose job it is to keep the public safe.
But who watches the watchers?
Or more specifically, who checks on how they've used the money the government gave them in the last financial year?
Admittedly that last question doesn't have the same superhero mystique around it but that is the job of Parliament; to scrutinise government spending in what are called annual reviews.
It's part of the financial scrutiny cycle which has two main parts; looking at future and past spending. To make things more circular and confusing, these parts overlap.
Four government-funded organisations turned up to the Justice Committee this week to answer questions on how they've done over the past financial year.
