The government has announced an "apprenticeship for the dole" scheme, targeting 18-to-24 year-olds who've spent more than six months on a benefit. The divisive "waka-jumping" bill went before parliament today, with the Greens reluctantly promising their support. Public transport woes continue to plague two of the country's biggest cities - in Auckland the effort to phase out school buses in favour of "normal" public transport seems to have backfired, while Wellington's Regional Council has fallen on its sword following a catastrophic rollout of its new bus system. Six people - one of them the minister for civil aviation - were fined last year for using a cellphone on a plane, according to Newshub. France has reopened its investigation into the vanished Malaysia Airlines plane MH370, after a "final report" from Malaysian authorities failed to explain what happened.
