From The Panel, 4:45 pm on 11 July 2019

Non-government organisations are struggling from a lack of social workers because they can't compete with government agencies on the salary front. At the end of last year, Oranga Tamariki social workers got an average pay increase of about 30 percent. Brenda Pilott of Social Service Providers Aotearoa says the average salary for an NGO social worker is about $52,000 and the mid-point of the Oranga Tamariki pay scale is $83,000. She talks about what needs to happen.
