The Panel with Mihingarangi Forbes and Bernard Hickey (Part 1)
Te wiki o te reo Māori - Māori language week - starts today. The panellists discuss their feelings about the week, and ways to boost New Zealanders' engagement with te reo Māori. A former Labour minister is calling on the Crown to apologise to a generation of Māori who were beaten for speaking their native language at school. Some schools of thought are claiming the preponderance of smart phones could be eroding key skills - like the ability to spell, use grammar correctly, and even tell the time.
