Veteran activist reviews police response to Parliament protest

From The Panel, 4:12 pm on 18 February 2022

The Parliament protest is in its 11th day and shows no end in sight.

If anything there is a sense that people are embedding in, herb gardens being planted, school lessons up and running, music performances happening.

Much focus has been on the police response, and in particular what is seen as a relatively soft approach.

The Police Commissioner Andrew Coster warned this afternoon that enforcement action against anti-mandate protesters in and around Parliament could do more harm than good.

He says it runs the risk of danger to the public and increasing numbers and the only safe option is negotiation and de-escalation.

One veteran activist and protestor, Simon Oosterman, says that this stance by the police is not new.
