A visit to Naples convinces Paul that the place is the best city in Italy. He delights in the fact that he is not catered to like a tourist but is largely ignored or totally included by the locals. He theorises that the carefree live-for-the-moment attitude in Naples is due to proximity of the killer volcano, Vesuvius.
