Mongolian opera punches above its weight
What comes to mind when you think of Mongolia?
Yurts, Genghis Khan, the Gobi desert... Opera. That last one is something of a new trend. International singing competitions are awash with Mongolian opera singers, not just participating, winning too.
The move from tradtional throat singing to opera intrigued Glasgow-based music critic Kate Molleson so much she decided to travel to the country, crossing hundreds of kilometres to find out where this love of opera came from.
