Māori images are often misused more often to overseas events marking Waitangi day as well by the wider beer industry

A Melbourne bar, Freddie Wimpoles has been criticised for using an image of a former St Kilda mayor with tā moko drawn on his face to promote a Waitangi Day event. They have since removed the ad.
