Host Trevore Reekie features music from the movie Green Book and an exclusive acoustic performance by Kora player Sona Jobarteh recorded by RNZ at Womad 2019.
This week’s featured interview is with the late Tongan born musician and band leader, Wilfred Jeffs who later changed his name to Bill Sevesi and was inducted into the APRA Hall of Fame in 2015.
During the early 1950’s Bill Sevesi and his band the Islanders toured internationally, recorded a large catalogue of albums released on his own label and fulfilled his dream of ukuleles being taught to kids in schools. The interview was recorded at his home in Mt Roskill celebrating his life story and magnificent contribution to Pacific music before he passed away in April 2016.
