An Air New Zealand flight from Gisborne to Auckland has returned to Gisborne Airport after an engine problem.
Air New Zealand says flight NZ5166 landed safely after shutting down an engine shortly after departure.
Fire and Emergency say two fire crews and two water tankers - sent to the airport in support of airport emergency staff - were stood down just before midday.
Air NZ said the cause of the fault was being investigated and the engine was shut down in accordance with standard operating procedures.
A spokeperson said the plane landed safely after circling the airport for a short time.
The event came after an Air NZ flight from Sydney to New Zealand had to turn back, also over an engine issue.
