The last track that remained closed on Mt Maunganui following last week's scrub fire should be re-opened this evening.
Tauranga City Council said geologists are on site again today to assess the stability of rock on the fire ground.
It said the Waikorere Track should be reopened about 5pm today once this is completed and any risk of falling rock eliminated.
The fire burnt through almost two hectares of the peak on Thursday.
