The Christchurch mayor has paid tribute to the city's Catholic Bishop, Barry Jones, who died yesterday, aged 74.
He had been ill for some months following several strokes and a heart attack.
Lianne Dalziel said the city would miss the style of leadership Bishop Barry showed after the earthquakes.
She says he was a thoughtful man and a very good listener, whose calm approach to dealing with the future of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament was inspirational.
