The Hamilton City Council is asking for public feedback on the future of the city's Founders Theatre.
The 54-year-old theatre was closed suddenly in February because of concerns about its strength and safety in the event of an earthquake.
The council said there were three options for the theatre - refurbish the existing facility, demolish it or build a new theatre.
Hamilton City Council events and economic development manager Sean Murray said the theatre was a regional facility and an important asset to both Hamilton and the surrounding districts.
The public engagement process will close at the end of next month.
