A survey by Manpower Recruitment shows employers are upbeat as the construction sector gears up for the Christchurch rebuild.
The survey found a net 18% of employers expect to hire more staff over the remainder of the year, just up slightly compared with last quarter's 17%.
Manpower says the Christchurch rebuild blueprint is driving some of the optimism with the anticipated increase in the construction sector rising nine percentage points compared with the previous quarter.
The survey found job prospects in other sectors remain relatively stable with the exception of public administration and education, down four percentage points.
In the regions, Christchurch had the strongest quarterly hiring intention, while in Wellington employers had the highest jump in recruitment intentions, up four percentage points.
