The Government Statistician says plunging numbers of guest nights at holiday parks in April compared with March, led to an overall drop in guest nights of 10% for the month.
Statistics New Zealand says the fall follows a surge of 8.6% in March.
The agency said great weather and the early Easter pushed guest nights up in March.
Holiday park guest nights plunged 30% in April following a 23% increase in March. Nights at motels and backpackers fell by a smaller amounts and hotel guest nights showed a small rise.
Domestic travellers caused the overall decline. Guest nights by international travellers rose 1.3%.
