ASB says it has no current plans to introduce fees for people withdrawing cash from the bank - despite moves by its parent company.
The Commonwealth Bank has introduced changes that will mean customers using some of its most common accounts will be charged $3 to withdraw money at a branch or post office.
The fee will be waived for people who are under 18 or receiving a pension.
It comes as the bank replaces its "complete access" transaction account, which had no assisted withdrawal fee, with a "smart access" account.
This has a cheaper monthly fee - waived if people deposit at least $2000 a month into their account.
But it comes with a fee when people make an "assisted withdrawal" either in a branch or with staff on the phone.
The bank said on its website it was part of its commitment to provide the best available banking experiences but it has faced backlash.
Australia's financial services minister has reportedly told the bank to rethink the move.
Adam Boyd, executive general manager of personal banking at ASB, said it had removed staff-assisted withdrawal fees from all products several years ago.
"We have no current plans to reintroduce them."
