The Wānaka A&P Show has been cancelled for the first time since World War II, due to Covid-19 restrictions.
This year's show was due to be held on 11-12 March.
The show usually attracts 45,000 people across two days, bringing in more than $28 million in direct economic benefit to the local community.
Upper Clutha A&P Society chairperson Mike Scurr said they tried to delay the decision for as long as possible out of hope it could go ahead.
He said the event would have provided a much-needed cash injection into the region.
