Chalaev wins weighlifting silver medal

New Zealand has won its second weightlifting medal at the Commonwealth Games after Stanislav Chalaev finished second in the 105kg class.

Russian-born Chalaev lifted 150kg in the snatch and 184kg in the clean and jerk.

He finished 4kgs behind Niusila Opeloge of Samoa, who lifted 338kg.

Earlier in the competition, Richard Patterson won a silver medal in the 85kg class.

Family affair

In Samoa's second gold medal of the day, Ele Opeloge, the sister of Niusila, won the women's 75kg class, lifting a total of 285kg.

Samoa now has three gold medals in the sport, Faavae Faauliuli having won the men's 94kg title at the weekend.
