The New Zealand women's hockey team have failed to make the Commonwealth Games final, beaten 3-1 on penalties in their semi final against England.
The scores were locked at one all after regular time, in a match the Black Sticks dominated possession.
They trailed one-nil at halftime and only scored the equaliser against a well organised England team a couple of minutes before fulltime.
The New Zealand captain Kayla Whitelock described their performance as timid saying didn't show their usual aggressive approach.
The Black Sticks were ranked second going into the tournament but will now play South Africa for the bronze medal on Sunday morning. (NZ time).
England will take on defending championz Australia, who beat them 3-0 in the pool stage.
