Hamilton-based security firm Gallagher Security has secured a contract to protect the world's largest commercial office building in Surat, India.

Gallagher Security designs and manufactures security software and hardware, including integrated access control, intruder alarm and perimeter solutions.

The Surat Diamond Bourse is an expansive 15-story complex that covers more than 35 acres.

Sprawling an impressive 7.1 million square feet, the complex accommodates more than 65,000 diamond professionals and includes essential facilities such as an independent customs office, international banking facilities and diamond-testing laboratories.

"As a security manufacturer, having our software and hardware selected to secure the world's largest commercial office building in Surat is a proud moment," says Gautham N.V., head of sales and marketing for Gallagher Security in India.

The diamond trading hub, inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in December, opted for Gallagher Security's security solution, Command Centre, to ensure the security of the complex.

The Command Centre is a security solution developed by Gallagher Security to assist customers in managing people, sites and buildings.

"Gallagher Security's site management platform Command Centre provide a seamless, integrated security experience that prioritises security, safety and convenience for staff and visitors," Gautham says.

He says the Surat Diamond Bourse features more than 700 doors, 650 readers and multiple system integrations.

Having operated in India for nearly three decades, Gallagher Security currently protects more than 11,000 doors across the country and safeguards more than 200 kilometers of site perimeter for its 250 customers.

The company is also involved in providing security for India's parliament building.

Gautham says Gallagher technology has protected the old parliament building for more than 20 years and is proud to continue with the new complex.

Graham Rouse, New Zealand trade commissioner and consul-general for India and South Asia, highlighted the significance of securing a project of the magnitude of the Surat Diamond Bourse.

"Gallagher Security has been doing some fantastic things in India - its involvement in the new parliament building and Balasaheb Thackeray Gorewada Park, the country's largest international zoological park, are cases in point," Rouse says.

"It's success stories like these that help to show other New Zealand businesses what is possible to achieve here if they adopt the right approach and build the right partnerships," he says.

Rouse notes the resonance of the New Zealand brand in India.

"Attributes like integrity and trust are highly valued here [in India]," he says.

"To have companies like Gallagher Security, plus Rakon (and its contribution to the Chandrayan moon landing) and Fisher & Paykel Healthcare (with its positive impact on India's healthcare) bringing the same values to life across different sectors is hugely helpful for future trade and technology collaborations."
