Auckland councillors have tentatively accepted the Government's offer of $30 million of waterfront property and a say in running Eden Park stadium.
Several councillors have queried the risk to ratepayers of taking over the Government's five seats on the Eden Park Trust Board.
The Government wants to give up its involvement in Eden Park, which it assumed when it invested $190 million for the Rugby World Cup upgrade.
Mayor Len Brown said on Thursday the council will discuss details with the Government before making a final decision in a month.
The other parts of the proposed gift are the Government's half-share in Queens Wharf and ownership of the plastic-clad function centre called The Cloud.
