New Zealand athlete Lesley Cantwell, who collapsed at the Oceania track and field championships earlier this week, has died in a Tahiti hospital.

The 26-year-old suffered a brain haemorrhage after winning the 5000m walk in in Papeete on Tuesday. Her parents travelled to be with her in Tahiti on Thursday.

Athletics New Zealand chief executive Scott Newman said Cantwell's life-support was turned off on Friday morning.
