Greenpeace is to build a new vessel for its campaigns.
On the 24th anniversary of the sinking of the Rainbow Warrior in Auckland, the environmental group said work will start next year.
Rainbow Warror III is expected to be launched in 2011.
The original Rainbow Warrior was sunk by French agents in 1985, with the loss of one life.
Greenpeace says the new ship will cost about $50 million, $200,000 of which is coming from New Zealand.
The group describes its ships as an "extraordinary tool in fighting campaigns" and says a new larger vessel will allow it to continue its work.
