More older people are expected to be in the workforce in the future.
The Ministry of Social Development and Office for Senior Citizens have issued a report which says people over the age of 65 are forecast to make up 12% of the workforce by 2031.That compares to 5% in 2011.
The report says workers in that age group will earn more than 8-point-6 billion by 2031, with that figure rising to more than 13 billion by 2051.
Senior Citizens Minister Jo Goodhew says that's a bigger economic contribution than what was forecast two years ago.
