Earnings in New Zealand's video games industry have grown by 86% during the past year to more than $36 million.
The figures are based on a survey by the Game Developers Association of 33 studios that released commercial video games in the year to March.
Of the reported income $31.4 million came from exports of smartphone and online games.
The Game Developers Association says New Zealand-made games have a low profile in this country and
often people are unaware the games they are playing are made locally.
Wellington-based company PikPok had its game Super Monsters Ate My Condo nominated for a BAFTA award in Britain.
