Wellington police have made three arrests for the importation of drugs bought from suppliers on the internet.
The arrests are the result of a joint operation between police and Customs, after the latter began seizing substances being sent to local addresses.
Police say the drugs were ordered online, including through The Silk Road site, which American law enforcement agencies recently shut down.
They include small quantities of LSD, methamphetamine, MDMA and other psychoactive substances.
Detective Senior Sergeant Tim Leitch said on Wednesday it is becoming increasingly common for people to import drugs from anonymous internet suppliers, believing it is low risk.
Mr Leitch said the reality is, the risk of being caught is significant and the consequences are serious.
