The Court of Appeal has rejected a bid for a retrial by a man jailed for the murder of a Whanganui woman.
Marice McGregor was bludgeoned to death in 2010. Dean Mulligan was jailed for life in 2011 and ordered to spend at least 15 years behind bars.
At a hearing earlier this year, Mulligan's lawyer said a new affidavit from a doctor explained that after counselling, Mulligan now felt he could safely reveal the truth about the drug underworld's involvement in her death.
However, in a decision released on Friday, the Court of Appeal said there is no reasonable possibility that the jury might have acquitted Mulligan if it had seen the material presented on his behalf during the appeal.
It said Mulligan was simply trying to elaborate upon the account he gave during the trial, which was rejected by the jury.
