Big changes to council's senior management tier

Major changes to the senior management structure of the Christchurch City Council have been finalised following staff feedback.

The council's structure has not significantly changed since 2003 and the shake-up is happening to ensure that the organisation can cope with the earthquake-hit city's $40 billion rebuild.

Six general managers' positions will be cut and replaced with six new positions, four of which will focus on the rebuild. The rest of the senior management team will oversee the council's everyday operations.

Council chief executive Jane Parfitt said 30 staff submissions were received and some changes to the original proposal were made. For example, the incumbent general manager of human resources will stay on until August next year to help establish the new management structure.
