A temporary container mall in central Christchurch may have to be moved if a compromise can't be reached with adjoining landowners.
The owners of empty central city sites behind the Re:Start mall, want to start developing their properties and might not renew the tenancy leases for the containers.
Mall trustee Roger Bridge said the current leases expire between April and June next year and the trust is negotiating how to extend those.
He said there is a lot of goodwill from the landowners towards the retailers because they will need tenants to fill their new buildings.
Mr Bridge says to move the mall would cost about $1 million.
