A South Island scenic flight operator says the purchase of a fourth Cessna aircraft fills the company's needs as the tourism sector grows.

Operations manager Antony Sproull arrived in Queenstown on Friday night after flying the $2 million Cessna Caravan from Greece.

Mr Sproull says the previous owner put the plane on sale because of the global financial crisis.

He says most of his company's scenic flights are from Queenstown to Milford Sound.
