Auckland Airport says it has increased security at the request of Malaysia Airlines after the disappearance of one of its planes.
Flight MH370 bound for Beijing vanished after leaving Kuala Lumpur with 239 people, including two New Zealanders, aboard on Saturday.
A spokesperson for the Aviation Security Service said it has put in the extra measures, including additional baggage screening, but those are only for passengers flying with Malaysia Airlines.
Mike Richards said the extra security was introduced on Sunday morning in time for that afternoon's flight to Malaysia.
Auckland Airport is asking passengers flying with the airline to allow extra time to check in.
