A trust that sponsors a rural Maori charter school in Northland says it's had teething problems - but the students are fine.
Te Kura Hourua ki Whangaruru is advertising for three teachers and the Ministry of Education says it experienced some challenges in its first weeks.
The kura for secondary students opened last month on a 80ha property south of Russell. Many of its 58 pupils are being transported by bus from Whangarei, more than 50km away.
Nga Parirau Matauranga, the trust running the school, says no teachers have quit and all its classrooms are functioning.
Chair Hori Parata said the trust bought the property for land-based learning and it will eventually be farmed.
