Child, Youth and Family is saying little after police were led on a high-speed chase in Auckland involving an 11-year-old who they say was in the agency's care.
A patrol in Papakura tried to stop a Mitsubishi Galant being driven erratically about midnight on Tuesday.
Police said the boy who was driving took off at up to 120km/h before he stopped the car and ran away. They said the boy escaped from Child, Youth and Family custody.
But the agency said he was not in a secure residential facility and was in a community placement. It said the case is a matter for police and is declining to say anything else.
