Hawke's Bay police commander Sandra Venables says it is not true there are plans to close the Napier police station.
Conservative Party candidate Garth McVicar has claimed that the station is under threat of closure.
Ms Venables said there would always be a police presence in the city, although the location of the police station may change in the future.
She said it was an ageing building and would require rebuilding at some stage.
Ms Venables said police have been talking to the Fire Service about a combined emergency services site in Napier but no decision has been made.
She said Mr McVicar's claim that he had not received a response from the Police Minister about his concerns was also wrong.
