A free mobile phone application offering step-by-step first aid and emergency help has been launched today.
The Red Cross app has tips on how to prepare for disasters and instructions for everyday emergency scenarios.
Videos and interactive quizzes come with the app, which is accessible even without phone reception or an internet connection.
Red Cross spokesperson Garth Dawson said it would be particularly useful for those first on the scene of an emergency, when help has not arrived yet.
"Doctors, paramedics and emergency responders aren't the first people to get to an accident. The first people there are your friends, your work colleagues, your family, local people around you."
The app can be downloaded from the Red Cross's website.
