MetService has issued a severe weather warning covering most of the country for tomorrow.
Gales are forecast for the eastern coasts of both Islands, as well as central New Zealand and the upper North Island.
The strongest winds are expected in Wellington, about the coasts of Wairarapa, Hawke's Bay, Gisborne, Auckland, and Northland.
Severe weather warnings are in place for Wellington and coastal Wairarapa for Monday, with southerlies expected to reach 120 kph during the morning.
MetService said the winds should peak late morning to early afternoon about central New Zealand and the upper North Island.
Large waves are likely to affect the southern coasts of Wellington and Wairarapa, and the western coasts of Auckland and Northland.
Snow is expected in the central North Island, with the warning covering higher parts of Taihape and the Tongariro National Park.
